Keywords:

lie, benefit, harm, proverb, Russian and Chinese languages, stereotypes.

Abstracts:

A lie is one of the key concepts of Russian culture and needs to be studied as an element of the system of moral dimensions of life and actions of a person, which is often treated as negative. The article aimed at identifying the specificity of ethno-tagged representations employs the method of linguoculturological analysis of the Russian paremiae against the Chinese ones in terms of benefits and harms. This makes it possible to see the differences and coincidences in stereotypical ideas about lies and the ways of their verbalization in proverbs. The research results show that a lie entails certain consequences that affect both the liar and other people, it has a number of varieties and serves various purposes: slander, praise, justification, etc. The research can be continued by studying the proverbial ways of verbalizing the utilitarian assessment of other manifestations of human nature and aspects of his activity.
