Name of article: MOTHER ARCHETYPE IN SLOVENIAN LITERATURE (BASED ON THE WORKS OF IVAN СANKAR AND ZOFKA KVEDER)
Keywords:

mother archetype, image of mother, Great Mother, mother of the nation, Slovenian literature, Ivan Сankar, Zofka Kveder.

Abstracts:

The mother archetype is central to Slovenian culture, largely due to its embodiment in female literary characters by the national classical writer Ivan Cankar. There often appears an idealized figure of the mother in his works, and it correlates with both the mother of the nation and the Mother of God. In the works of Cankar, there is a trend to generalize this recurring image and project the Great Mother archetype on a specific autobiographical figure of the mother.

In the texts of the writer Zofka Kveder, there can be found a new interpretation of this image, and the variety of mother characters (from a loving mother to a child-murderer), which could be compared to various images of the discussed archetype.
