SEMANTICS AND PRAGMATICS OF N. V. GOGOL’S CHARACTONYMS IN TRANSLATION INTO ENGLISH
Peculiarities of realization of semantics and pragmatics of charactonyms (speaking names) in translation from Russian into English are considered in the article on the material of N. V. Gogol’s literary works. The semantic analysis of charactonyms with consideration of extra-linguistic component is given in the article and the need for translation of the meaning of the charactonyms with the help of the translator’s note or explanation is given in the article. The role of the context in the translation of charactonyms is proved. The authors show the ways the key characteristics of the characters and associations connected with them are realized in the context.
