Abstracts:
This article presents the results of a survey among 600 students of the Chuvash nationality learning from grades 7 to 11 in schools of the Komsomolskoe and Batyrevo districts of Chuvashia, Russia. The research has investigated the factors influencing the choice of the languages of communication with the mother, father and siblings by means of logistic regressions. The results suggest that living in a district centre, an urban origin of the student, an imperfect knowledge of Chuvash by one of the parents, a high educational level of the mother and being schooled in the Russian-language milieu of the district centres adversely affect the use of the Chuvash as a home language of communication.
