author’s position on the issue of ethnicity of an individual, comparative-evidential base of the author’s scientific research, interpretation and prediction of various manifestations of ethnic consciousness and self-consciousness, actualization of I.N. Afanasyev’s scientific research.

The article discusses the scientific value of I. N. Afanasyev’s ethno-psychological research on the impact of the determining natural and geographical conditions, historical and ethno-cultural and contemporary socio-cultural factors on the psychology of an individual. It also discloses a scientific idea of I. N. Afanasyev’s essentially meaningful and functional justification of ethnic stereotype of person’s behaviour as a result of laws and mechanisms of the development of society in natural-climatic and socio-cultural conditions. The concept developed enabled the authors to refresh the look at the ethno-psychological mechanisms of educational influence on the formation of a child’s personality, to interpret and predict the various manifestations of ethnic consciousness and self-consciousness in the new rapidly changing socio-cultural conditions.
