Abstracts:

Based on the description of the major exposés in American journalism during the period from the end of XIX – early XXI centuries, the authors consider the articles and books of the most famous journalists, public and government agencies’ reaction to their publications. The authors come to the conclusion that the activity of the pioneers of investigative journalism led to significant changes in the American political system, but over the past forty years, despite the great public response, these scandals resulted in nothing but fame for them. However, the study of foreign methods of doing investigative journalism is practical significance for the Russian investigative journalists and also for beginner-journalists.
