The research scope is the German verbal system from the point of view of an extralinguistic factor. The author considers the influence of an extralinguistic factor on the development of a verbal system. According to the author, the extralinguistic factor had a great influence on the inflections of the studied language. The German language preserves these inflections both in word formation, and in conjugation of verbs. In many instances the process of preservation or change of inflections is associated with collective behaviour of subsystems forming the system. The practical implications of the research work consist in its being useful in the practice of teaching languages in institutions of higher education: in the course of General Linguistics, for the improvement of lexicographic skills, when giving special courses and in special seminars, when working on course and degree works by students of faculties of foreign languages.
