Abstracts:In the Northern Gobi (the southern part of Mongolia) 114 species of birds belonging to 14 orders, 31 families and 66 genera are recorded. By presence type 21 resident species and 93 migrant species are noted. Among migrant species 29 species nest and 4 species presumably nest, 5 species sum-mer, 48 species can be found only during the spring and autumn migrations, 5 species are vagrant and 2 species make seasonal nomadic migrations of vertical type at the ridge of Gurvan-Saihan. 5 species of birds are numerous, 10 species are common, 21 species are rare and 78 species are ex-tremely rare. The taxonomical classification of avifauna of the Northern Gobi is the following: Pelecaniformes – 1, Ciconiiformes – 1, Anseriformes – 5, Falconiformes – 16, Cuculiformes – 1, Galliformes – 2, Grui-formes – 2, Charadriiformes – 13 Columbiformes – 4, Strigiformes – 2, Apodiformes – 1, Upupiformes – 1, Piciformes – 1, Passeriformes – 64 species. The dominant ecological group of the avifauna of the Northern Gobi is arboreal-shrub birds (den-drophils), which account for 41 species; 28 species are sclerophylls. In wetland areas 24 species (limno-philes) are found. In open habitats (steppe, desert) 21 species of birds (campophiles) are noted.
