The digital transformation of education makes special demands on the professional training of qualified specialists with a high level of digital competence, including future speech therapists.  Modernization of the system of special education provides, first of all, for the revision of the basic professional educational programs of higher education and actualization of practical methods of working with children with developmental disorders, which are taught to students. The article provides the analysis of the basic professional educational program for the training direction 44.03.03 Special (Defectological) Education (orientation (profile) of the program: Logopedics), showing that in the process of its mastering the students should be formed competencies characterizing their ability to understand the principles of modern information technologies and use them to solve the problems of professional activity. In order to identify the readiness of future speech therapists to use digital equipment, a diagnostic study was conducted with the participation of students of the Mari State University (Yoshkar-Ola, Russia). The results obtained are analyzed and it is noted that the systemically organized digital educational environment of the university, including a set of digital-oriented academic disciplines, digital tools, digital technologies, digital equipment, improves the quality of professional training and contributes to the formation of digital competencies of students, which meets the requirements of the digital economy.
