Abstracts:

The article contains the results of an analytical study of the scientific and creative heritage of N.F. Katanov (1862-1922), an outstanding Russian orientalist-Turkologist, educator of the 19th- 20th centuries. The Relevance of the study is to promote the education of the value-cultural attitude of contemporaries to the historical past of our multinational country. The paper notes that diary entries by Katanov who collected folklore-linguistic, ethnographic material within Siberia, in particular, modern Khakassia and Tuva, can be valued as a rich linguistic, historical and cultural source for researchers. The Material and Methods of the study show brief analytical review of N.F. Katanov’s diary entries about various aspects of everyday life of the Turkic tribes: beliefs, economic relations, folklore, interethnic and interpersonal relations with neighbors, ethno-cultural customs and traditions. The author examines the ethnocultural traditions of the Khakas and Tuvans from an ethnopedagogical position. The main research methods are content analysis, comparative analysis and systematization of information. The Results and Discussion contains the facts obtained by N.F. Katanov from the representatives of different strata of society and showing the features of the cultural and historical state of the Siberian Turkic tribes at the end of the 19th century. The author identified some ethnic traditions of education among indigenous peoples, which have not lost their significance today. The Conclusions summarizes the value of knowledge about ethno-cultural traditions, including the traditions of home education, which were painstakingly collected and described by N.F. Katanov.
