Abstracts:

This article is devoted to the analysis of the Russian anthroponyms in the works of the Serbian postmodernist, literary historian and translator M. Pavic. The artistic world of the writer presents a particular system of names. Anthroponyms are reinterpreted by the author, they create associative links, act as elements of intertextuality and develop the artistic worldview of the writer.

The research rationale is due to the interest in the works of M. Pavic, his unfailing popularity among the readers; the study of the influence of Russian literature and culture, which has been repeatedly stressed by the writer himself; the attention to various forms of intertextuality as a characteristic feature of postmodernist prose.

The material for the research is presented by one of the “Russian” novels by M. Pavic, “Landscape Painted with Tea”. For the research the following methods were used: holistic analysis of the text, cultural and literary research methods, interpretive analysis of the text.

Anthroponyms referring the reader to the works of other authors, in particular belonging to another culture, serve as a means of postmodernist “game”. The Serbian writer, creating a special artistic space, gives his characters names associated with Russian literature, history and culture. The analysis of anthroponyms in the novel deliver intertextual and associative links with the classics of Russian literature represented by the names of A. Pushkin, L. Tolstoy, F. Dostoevsky, N. Gogol, Russian folklore. The article reveals the artistic potential of anthroponyms and presents the description of the characters in the novel, clearly demonstrating the author’s peculiar manner of identifying the images through artistic nomination.

Literary anthroponymy in the novel illustrates the dialogue of cultures, in particular Serbian and Russian, being an important form of intertextuality in the works of M. Pavic.
