Abstracts:

An increasing number of expressive language means are being used with an aim of drawing a recipient’s attention to the discussed subject. The metaphor holds the key position among those means. The relevance of the study is due to changes in the selection of lexical means in representation of Russian education system suggested in media discourse. The study aims to carry out a linguo-cognitive analysis of metaphorical expressions that can form stereotypical ideas about education in the Russian picture of the world. The methods of a cognitive-discursive analysis and metaphorical modeling were used in the study. The material of the study is represented by the media publications for the period 2017–2022. The analysis of the collected examples showed that when representing individual concepts of the education system, nominations from such areas as “Disease” (19%), “Conflict/War” (18%), “Road” (15%), “Nature” (10%), “Industry” (10%), “Sport” (9%), “Crime” (7%) are used. The revealed spheres of metaphorical expansion identify those signs of educational activity which are significant in the given context. Morbial and military metaphors act as high-frequent. The negative connotation of the dominant spheres-sources determines the formation of the corresponding informative image of the world and constructs a stereotypical image of Russian education system as an ill, dying or dead organism or a field of military operations. The identified evaluation component forms an informative picture of the world and constructs the corresponding image of Russian education system at present stage.
