Abstracts:

The article is devoted to the study of the features of the artistic embodiment of the theme of the fate of the people in Mansur Gilyazov’s drama “Bichura” (“Brownie”, 1988–1989). The study analyzes the artistic techniques and means used by the playwright to help reveal the theme of the fate of the people in the context of the national poetic picture of the world. The research methods employed in the study were cultural-historical and hermeneutic methods, the method of holistic analysis of a literary work. The study showed that the creation of complex characters, consideration of national and universal values in a common bundle, a peculiar author’s attitude to the depicted events allowed the playwright to form a new philosophical view of the history of the 20th century. The main motif of the play is the motive of loss – the loss of historical memory, national mentality, connection between generations. The main idea of the play is that only through the revival of national consciousness, a return to the roots and traditional values can harmony be achieved in the world. The deepening and expansion of the content of the work is due to mythologization and symbolization. Mythological and symbolic (author’s symbols and traditional symbols) images become instruments of the intertextual connection of the play with the Tatar literature of the early 20th century and the 1960s-1980s. The author uses recognizable symbols that were actively used in the Tatar literature of the early 20th century, when depicting the past, and the dialogue with the literature of the 1960s–1980s is aimed at the future. The technique of intertextuality contributes to mythologizing the past and future of the people.
