Abstracts:

This article is devoted to the peculiarities of the functioning of linguistic evidential means in the space of news media discourse. The study of this modus category is aligned with the need to mark the source of information, as well as to characterize the transmitted information by the communication subject in the process of discourse deployment. The purpose of this article is to present the role of informative evidentiality in the process of updating the intentional dominant of the news media discourse. The objectives of the article include the identification of neutral and hidden types of informative evidentiality, as well as the description of the specifics of the representation of these evidential types in the discursive space of mass media. In this regard, the material of the study is presented by 1000 news evidential contexts taken from the electronic version of the British magazine “The Economist” and obtained by continuous sampling method. The relevance of the article is the lack of studies of the category “evidentiality” in a similar perspective, as well as the importance of specification and differentiation of axiological evidential meanings formed by the author of a news passage in the process of constructing a discourse in order to have a certain impact on a potential reader. In the course of the study, the author determines the intentional dominant of the media discourse and substantiates the relevance of referring to evidential semantics in the study of news discourse. The researcher comes to the conclusion that the informative strategy acts as the dominant communicative strategy of the news media discourse, which makes it possible to present the definition of informative evidentiality, as well as describe two types of this category (informative and hidden evidentiality), through which the impact on the addressee is carried out.
