| Abstracts: | The article is the authors’ insight in the features of translating history textbooks from English into Russian. The authors analyze the use of translation transformations in the translations of “World History: The Modern Eraˮ (USA) and “Twentieth Century: The History of the World, 1901 to the Presentˮ (Great Britain) performed by the MGIMO Students’ Scientific Society. The chapters of these textbooks dedicated to the Great Patriotic War and their Russian translations have become the research material. This work is urgent and acute as the peculiarities of the translation of English-language history textbooks are insufficiently studied in linguistics and, in particular, there is no objective take to the translation of such a literature in translation studies. The present article aims at identifying and systematizing translation solutions when translating educational historical texts into Russian. The authors came to the conclusion that Russian translators preserved adequacy in translation with no commenting or rating the facts presentation. Lexico-semantic substitutions have become the most frequently used transformations in the translation of the textbooks under consideration, such a fact having not only an objective intra-linguistic explanation, but being also explained by extra linguistic factors.
