Abstracts:

The article discusses the problem of  formation of self-control in senior students in the process of learning a foreign language; shows the urgency of this problem confirmed by the scientific research works of A. A. Krylov, S. D. Yakusheva, G. K. Selevko, and the importance of self-control skills for independent learning activities of senior schoolchildren in general and studying  a foreign language in particular.

The work also presents the results of the study of senior pupils’ educational activity self-control, conducted in a number of secondary schools in Cheboksary. The study demonstrated the dependence of self-control effectiveness on the interest in a particular subject and educational motivation; overestimated self-esteem of the level of educational activity self-control demonstrated by schoolchildren.

The authors suggest keeping a learning diary for the formation of self-control among senior schoolchildren,; provide  a structure of such a diary including the goals of learning a foreign language, a calendar for an  academic year, a calendar for every month of the year,  a calendar for individual every week of the month; a tracking system (tracker) for a month, etc. They also present an example of keeping a leaning diaryin the process of preparing for the USE in a foreign language .

The comments and recommendations are given for teachers on the formation of senior schoolchildren’s  skills of self-control of educational activities using  a learning diary.
