Abstracts: | A work of fiction represents a complex of text-forming units. Such units are connected with each other by various types of contextual, figurative, intertextual relations. One of the compositional methods of constructing a text is the citation of already existing texts belonging to different genres of literature, including those of an official manner style.
The author regards the cases of citation of the so-called military language. One of the basic functions of using elements of the military language, as in any work of military subjects, is to create an effect of authenticity of what is happening. In a literary text, as a rule, a whole range of elements of the language of army discourse that are heterogeneous in type and different in stylistic and pragmatic characteristics are employed. Such units are subject to contextual transformations, thereby creating certain semantic contrasts. Such contrasts arise due to the play of styles: laconic, impersonal, deprived of imagery language of various military commands and reports is accompanied either by a jokingly ironic author’s commentary, or it appears in a deliberately comical, and sometimes frankly absurd contextual environment (in an inherently absurd contextual situation), due to which comic effect increases.
The article also considers the main types of the citation of the elements of the military (army) language, including units of the so-called “army folklore”, and their stylistic and pragmatic role in the structure of the work of fiction.
