Abstracts:

The article is analyzing Russian, American, and Mexican proverbs to define their universal and national characteristics. The method of cognitive-pragmatic analysis was used to research paremiological materials.  This method of research helps to determine the specifics of a national worldview and the influence of the system of values on the formation of the character of the woman in each culture. The goal of our research is identify some universal and national characteristics of women in proverbs about speech. The scientific novelty of this comparative study is the fact that the paremias in Russian, American English, and Mexican Spanish that objectivize speech stereotypes and have a gender component. The results of our research demonstrate that androcentricity is a universal principal of modeling the image of a woman; however, each linguistic culture uses its unique ways of realization of the image through language. The analysis of modern American proverbs demonstrates a change of the traditional image of a woman in the American linguistic culture, our research provides evidence of this transition of national mentality. Thus, our research provides some general and specific national characteristics of a woman in the three compared linguistic cultures; forecasts perspective changes in national mentality as exemplified by American paremiological materials.
