Abstracts:	The article draws attention to the need for the formation of academic and communicative competence within the framework of university courses in teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP). The present work discusses the idea of the interrelation of academic reading and academic writing as a means of promoting the development of general academic literacy. It emphasizes that the process of the formation of academic literacy has much in common with the organization of scientific research work; provides the review of the opinions of modern methodologists substantiating the need for the development of research skills.
