Abstracts:	The article deals with the German synonyms of the term Geduld («patience»). The etymological and lexical analysis of the selected language units reveals the ways of formation of this rare personal quality, namely, through the cultivation of persistence and endurance, perseverance, self-control, attentive and kind attitude to others, the ability to wait, and to endure stress. The aphorisms described in the article characterize patience as a condition for progress and an important social skill that ensures the health of the nation and a responsible attitude to the Universe.
