Abstracts: | In modern conditions of globalisation and active development of international relations, the Russian language occupies an important place as a means of intercultural communication and establishing ties between countries. The spread of the Russian language in countries where it is not the main language contributes to the development of cultural exchange, determines relations in the economic and humanitarian spheres, and stimulates interest in the study of Russian culture and history. One such country is the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, where there is higher demand for the Russian language due to the development of tourism. Despite this interest, the system of teaching the Russian language in educational organisations in Sri Lanka faces a number of problems. Lack of qualified teachers and adapted teaching materials, absence of methodological support for teachers lead to a low level of the process of learning Russian in educational organisations. The relevance of this article lies in the necessity to study and develop organisational and pedagogical conditions, implementation of which will contribute to improving the level of Russian language teaching in Sri Lankan schools. The study is aimed at identifying problem areas in the educational system and proposing solutions for the training of qualified teachers, development of teaching materials that will contribute to the creation of a favourable environment for the promotion of the Russian language in the country. The study is based on a mixed-methods approach that combines data collection and qualitative data processing to provide a comprehensive analysis of the state of the Russian language teaching in Sri Lankan schools, to identify the main problems and obstacles which teachers and learners face, and to propose effective solutions for methodological and organisational support. This will help not only to raise the level of teaching, but also to improve the quality of students’ mastery of the material, which will ultimately lead to an increase in interest in learning Russian and its greater prevalence in the country.
The results obtained require further search for opportunities to increase the number of Russian language learners in Sri Lanka, development and testing of teaching and methodological materials that would improve the quality of language teaching and take into account the national, cultural and religious peculiarities of Lankans.
