SYNERGETIC POTENTIAL OF POLYCODE TEXTS OF RUSSIAN NEW MEDIA (USING THE EXAMPLE OF SHORT VERTICAL VIDEOS)
Keywords:

Abstracts:
Today, polycode texts dominate the field of media communication, while the mechanics of interaction between different codes in the process of meaning generation are becoming more complicated. Thus, many polycode texts of modern Russian media are inherently synsemantic, and they are based on several sign systems at once, while none of them can be called dominant. Looking at a polycode text as a text with illustrations, that is, a text in which the verbal series is primary, seems somewhat simplified. This article examines exactly such a format of the Russian media – short vertical videos – from the point of view of the interaction of the verbal, iconic and melodic components and their influence on the content of the message. The relevance of the article is due to the lack of the Russian studies of the effect of creolization on the formal and substantive features of polycode texts of Russian media distributed in the format of short vertical videos. The purpose of the study is to identify the ratio of heterogeneous verbal and non-verbal elements of vertical videos and describe how their mutual influence contributes to a deep, not directly observable meaning of education. The research material consists of 100 videos from five federal Russian media, which are studied using methods of quantitative and qualitative content analysis. As a result of the study, the authors conclude that the concept of the creolized text is incomplete to describe this type of polycode texts and the need to introduce the term “synergetic sign”, the verbal and non-verbal elements of which are synsemantic in relation to each other. The results of the study will help to describe these complex polycode formations and decode their contents.
