Keywords: | Chinese New Year is the most representative traditional festival of the Chinese nation, highly valued for its rich folk customs, enthusiastic celebrations and far-reaching cultural influence. This paper examines paremias associated with the celebration of the Chinese New Year, exploring their cultural symbols, analyzing their uniqueness within Chinese linguoculture, and comparing them against the background of Russian linguoculture to identify common features between the two languages. The materials of the study were drawn from consecutive sampling of Chinese dictionaries, covering four major categories: food, decorations, rituals, and customs.
The findings indicate that cultural symbols in Chinese New Year paremias, such as dumplings, New Year cakes, couplets, and New Year paintings, vividly reflect the traditional characteristics. Furthermore, the customs of sacrifices and taboos presented in Chinese paremias demonstrate similarities with the omens and prohibitions found in Russian paremias, indicating shared values related to the hope for good fortune and well-being in the New Year. Additionally, the study reveals semantic commonalities between Chinese and Russian languages in terms of concepts like radish, cleaning, scissors, and visiting the mother-in-law. This research provides materials for reconstructing the paremiological picture of the world.
