Abstracts:
The names of monetary units in proverbs refer to ethnolinguistic markers – unique components that reflect the specifics of the proverbial world picture of a people. The purpose of the article is to identify the features of the Chuvash proverbial metaphors expressed by the names of monetary units, as well as their analysis in comparison with proverbs of the languages of the Turkic, Slavic, Baltic and Finno-Ugric language groups. The relevance of the paper is that the analysis with such a set of languages is carried out for the first time. The paper examines 28 Chuvash proverbs against the background of more than 800 proverbs of 10 typologically different languages. The method of comparative linguocultural analysis was used based on the theory of semantic models in paremiology. In the course of the research, the use of 6 names of monetary units in Chuvash proverbs was revealed and analyzed: укҫа; сум; пус; ҫурпус; полтинӗк, копейка. The proverbs with these markers are examined in comparison with proverbs of the Russian, Polish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Turkish, Tatar, Mari, Udmurt, Mordvin and Komi languages according to semantic models and with corresponding linguocultural commentaries. Chuvash proverbs with ethnolinguistic markers – names of monetary units – provide important linguocultural information about different periods of the people’s history. The universal features in the proverbs are explained by the common monetary system. The specificity is national.
