Abstracts:

The article presents the results of the study of highly specialized technical terms and analyses the peculiarities of their translation from Russian into English on the material of technical texts in the machine-engineering sphere. The peculiarities of technical texts and technical terms are described with special attention paid to the study of the competent structure of terms; different techniques of translation of highly specific technical terminology are described, which help to overcome the translation difficulties associated with the multi-component structure of terms.

The practical significance of the research is determined by the choice of the material.  In the course of the work, we have analyzed the techniques of translation of technical terminology in technical texts presented on the website of Concern Tractor Plants. The machine-engineering industry is one of the leading industries in the Chuvash Republic and there is a constant need for technical translation. The research is highly important as its results can be used in professional courses of technical translation when training future translators, as well as when organizing in-plant training of students in machine-engineering enterprises more effectively.

The study allows us to conclude that the translation of highly specialized technical terminology requires the use of various translation techniques, such as word for word translation, use of equivalents, transliteration, descriptive translation, and combined translation method. The analysis of definitions, contextual analysis and component analysis of highly specialized technical terminological units will help to optimize the translation process and improve its quality.
