K. Gerd was the most prominent teacher and organizer of public education, among the Udmurt enlighteners. Scientists have revealed him as a poet, folklorist, ethnographer. But the pedagogical potential of his creative heritage has not yet been fully explored. Taking into account this problem, the topic of our research is formulated as the pedagogical ideas of the Udmurt educator K. Gerd in the modern ethnocultural educational space. The object of research is the pedagogical heritage of the Udmurt educator K. Gerd. The purpose of research is to study K. Gerd's pedagogical ideas and their significance in modern ethnocultural education and upbringing.
It is important to study and analyze the ideas of the educator on developing Udmurt-Russian bilingualism in children, because modern monitoring studies show a decrease in the number of native speakers of the Udmurt language. Teaching Udmurt as a native language to children is becoming a serious school issue.
The research material includes K. Gerd’s scientific articles, works of art, textbooks and manuals. The following theoretical research methods were used: analysis, comparison, generalization, abstraction.
A comprehensive study of K. Gerd’s heritage has shown that based on the ideas of K. D. Ushinsky, he scientifically substantiated the necessity of studying the native language and teaching it to children. His teaching aids were based on the idea that national cultural peculiarities and values must be an indispensable part of education and upbringing. They have a huge cognitive potential as they broaden the learners’ outlook, develop their mother tongue and the ability to think. The ideas of the enlightener's artistic works are in tune with the tasks of modern spiritual and moral education and upbringing both in the school and family contexts.
K. Gerd's pedagogical activities and scientific recommendations on expanding the ethno-linguistic learning environment are effective in preserving the native language, spiritual values and folk traditions of education.
