Abstracts:
The article describes the relevance of TED Talks use in English classes within the framework of the educational project “Linguistic School of Professional Growth”. The project is done by the English language department of the “Altai State Pedagogical University”. The objective of the article is to study the peculiarities of students’ communicative competence development on the basis of the algorithm of work with TED lectures in the process of English teaching in the mentioned project. The methods used in the paper are analysis of scientific literature and information resources in the sphere of TED Talks video material use and empirical methods including a questionnaire study, observation and reflection on practical experience. The main criteria of video material selection considering students’ level of English proficiency are formulated. An algorithm of work with the lectures in classes of English is presented. The article describes pre-viewing, while-viewing and post-viewing exercises which can be used in class.
Work experience in the given project allowed the authors to confirm the fact that the use of the studied educational media resource helps to create a sociocultural context and contributes to development of the communicative competence of learners.
