Abstracts: | The originality of the creative works of Russian poets in the first third of the 20th century still opens up wide opportunities for scientific analysis for philologists of various specializations. This study is devoted to the learning of three related verbs of the lexical-semantic field (LSF) of the verbs with the meaning "compose verses". The semantic spectrum of the verbs skladyvat’, slagat’, slozhit’ which are the core components of the specified field, is of particular importance for the creative process as it is associated with poets’ ideas about their activities. However, among the numerous works devoted to the lexical specifics of the language of poetry, the analysis of verbs with the meaning "compose verses" is virtually absent. The present study consists of an analysis of 185 uses of various forms of these verbs, found in poetic texts of more than fifty authors, whose works date back to the first third of the 20th century. The poetic subcorpus of the National Corpus of the Russian Language is used as a source of research material. The study employs corpus and descriptive methods, the method of contextual analysis, and the comparative method. The article examines a vast spectrum of forms semantic agreement and combinability of various forms of the verbs skladyvat’, slagat’, slozhit’ with lexemes that nominate works of various poetic genres and the "fruits" of poetic work (hymns, melodies, songs, lines, epics, odes, etc.). The research reveals that within the indicated period the majority of poets used the verbs under analysis in contexts of varying stylistic tonality. It can help expand the definitions of these verbs in dictionaries. Using the forms of these three related verbs, which are part of the core of the LSF with the meaning "compose verses", the poets demonstrate more similarities than differences. However, following in general the traditional use of verbs, poets significantly expand the boundaries of the lexical-semantic group of nouns with the meaning “poetic creations”, including in it, on the one hand, the names of vocal genres and works created within their framework, and on the other hand – demonstrating an individual style of poetic writing in unexpected combinations.
