Abstracts:
The article emphasizes the problem of nature and man in the cycle of short stories “A Sportsman’s Sketches” by I. S. Turgenev (“Yermolai and the Miller’s Wife”, “Raspberry Water”, “Lgov”, “Bezhin Lea”, “Singers”, “Meeting”, “The Clatter of Wheels”, “Forest and Steppe”). The author of the article highlights the importance of I. S. Turgenev’s philosophical beliefs in understanding the topic under consideration, drawing on his epistolary heritage. Characters of the stories with “internal integrity” are identified and analyzed in accordance with the typology of M. O. Gershenzon in this article. There are two types of literary characters: “split souls” and characters with “internal integrity” who are in harmony with nature. In Russian literary criticism, the conceptual analysis of characters with “internal integrity” in I. S. Turgenev’s “A Sportsman’s Sketches” has not yet received due attention. The research employs a comparative approach and the method of holistic analysis of a work of art.
