Abstracts:
The work examines the phraseological units of some peoples of South Slavia with the component name of a piece of hosiery “çorap” of Turkish origin against the background of other languages. The lexeme entered the host languages during the Ottoman Empire and was so adapted by the Slavs of the Balkan Peninsula that it is no longer perceived as alien. The purpose of the article is to show the phraseological potential of this word in the phraseological corpus of Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Serbia and Croatia. The relevance of the work is due to the need for a comprehensive study of the phraseology of South Slavs in order to identify the universal and idioethnic features in this sphere. The material of the analysis is phraseological units with the name of a piece of hosiery in their structure. These include units both actively used nowadays in certain regions of South Slavia, and those that have gone into a passive reserve. The methods of processing phraseological material include synchronous-comparative, structural-typological, areal-descriptive and structural-semantic analysis. The material is taken from diverse sources – phraseological dictionaries, scientific articles and dissertations. Structural and semantic models of phraseological units illustrate the interlingual similarity of some motivational ideas common both beyond the borders of South Slavia and among the Slavic peoples of the Balkans. At the same time, the analysis revealed many phraseological units known only to one country in the region.
