Abstracts:
This article is devoted to the comparative analysis of the systems of vowel sounds and phonemes in the Russian, German, Chuvash and English languages. Comparative analysis is a method based on logic, identifying the general and the particular, similar or distinctive, which allows a comprehensive consideration of the study object. The use of this method in the study of phonetic units contributes to a better understanding of the sound side of the language, helps to avoid interference phonetic errors. The article examines sounds in their acoustic-articulatory and functional-linguistic aspects of the above-mentioned languages. As a result of this study, it was revealed that in all the languages under consideration, vowels fit into a single articulatory classification, and in all four languages, vowels are subject to reduction, but the authors pay close attention to the differences. The study showed that German vowels have more specific features than the vowels of Russian, Chuvash and English languages. Thus, in the German language the articulation of vowels is stable, compared to the vowels in the study languages. German vowels are monophthongs, regardless of the strong position, they are pronounced while maintaining sound quality. In German, middle row vowels are not distinguished in strong position. German vowels at the beginning of a word or the beginning of a root are pronounced with a hard attack. English vowels have various degrees of labialization, and triphthongs are the most difficult to study among English sounds. In the Chuvash language, the softness of vowels has a greater phonetic influence on other sounds in the speech flow.
