Name of article:HUMAN QUALITIES THROUGH THE PRISM OF SPEECH ACTIVITY (BASED ON RUSSIAN PROVERBS)
Keywords:proverb, speech, human qualities, Russian language, ethnomarkedness
Abstracts:The article is devoted to the analysis of Russian proverbs reflecting speech activity in aspects of its verbal design, comprehension, pragmatic orientation, performance, conditions of implementation, etc. For the analysis, 160 proverbs about speech were selected from authoritative paremiological dictionaries, many of which are associated with various human qualities. As the paremi show, the participants of communication, when evaluating someone’s utterance, note besides the fact of speech itself and its external signs (such as speed, intelligibility, loudness, duration, etc.) various manifestations of co-containment (various characteristics of the speakers themselves, which are manifested in the content of speech). The spectrum of human qualities is quite wide: a person appears in the collective consciousness as a lover of lies, embellishments, promises, as one who is addicted to flattery, who is boastful, talkative and even chatty, immodest, inconsiderate, careless, lazy, envious, prudent, courageous, curious, etc. The results of the observations demonstrate the anthropocentricity of proverbs, since what is said in them, no matter what sphere of activity it concerns, is considered with a projection on a person: how he is seen by the speaker in this or that life situation. Paremi mostly verbalize critical attitudes towards speakers and very rarely positive, approving attitudes, which confirms the axiological nature of these units.
