Name of article:FEATURES OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF ISLAMIC EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS USING THE EXAMPLE OF THE REPUBLIC OF TATARSTAN
Keywords:Muslim education, traditional Islam, Tatarstan, cultural heritage
Abstracts:This article deals with the creation of Islamic educational institutions in post-Soviet Russia with an emphasis on cooperation between the state and the Muslim community. This determines the relevance of the article, since it raises the issue of how the state can use the system of Muslim education to prevent extremism and religious radicalism through the formation of its own theological school of “traditional Islam.” The methodological basis for the study is the post-secular theory of interaction between religion and the state, which criticizes modern secular theory for being Eurocentric in understanding the relationship between the state and the church. In accordance with this theory, religion in interaction with the state returns its place in public space. Using participant observation and discourse analysis as research methods, the author came to the conclusion that a vivid example of the development of Muslim educational institutions is the Russian Islamic University in Kazan, which since the second half of the 2000s has been led by a group of academic scholars, specialists in Tatar theology, headed by Academician Rafik Mukhametshin. It was these secular scholars who became the first to reform Muslim education in Tatarstan in order to form what is now called "traditional Islam" on its basis. The reformation of Islamic education is characterized by an orientation towards Islamic values, reliance on the cultural identity of the Tatar people, support of "traditional Islam" projects by the state, and active involvement of secular scholars in this process.
