| Abstracts: | The article deals with stereotypical perceptions reflected in Russian proverbs and formed as a result of observations of one of the most important types of relationships between people – relationships between spouses. The analysis of proverbs selected from V.I. Dahl’s dictionary and “The Big Dictionary of Russian Proverbs” edited by V.M. Mokienko, indicating the match/non-match of a husband to his wife and vice versa, allows us to look at this parameter from different points of view. On the one hand, it reveals a significant number of features that allow us to compare husband and wife: age, physical characteristics (strength/weakness, dexterity, etc.), intelligence, status and authority in the family, practical skills and sphere of labor efforts application, character traits and manner of behavior, (talkativeness/silence, thriftiness, diligence, etc.), nature of relations between them, etc., as well as the relationship between them. At the same time, an indication of match/non-match can be expressed directly or indirectly (“It’s a good experience for you, grandmother, don't marry your grandson”), a proverb can be figurative or non-figurative. In general, the range of verbalized attributes by which husband and wife are compared is quite wide and diverse, which reflects the nationally marked vision of the norm in marital relations and its violation by speakers of the Russian language and culture.
