SOME GRAPHO-PHONETIC ASPECTS OF THE TRANSMISSION OF TATAR CONSONANTISM IN THE WRITTEN LANGUAGE (SECOND HALF OF THE 18TH – BEGINNING OF THE 19TH CENTURIES )
One of the topical areas of Tatar linguistics is the study, analysis and translation into the modern Tatar literary language of the cultural heritage written in Arabic script. In the process of working on such texts, a number of questions arise concerning the graphic and phonetic features of the Tatar language and ways of reflecting certain sounds on the letter. In the studied period along with vowels there were a lot of questions about the Tatar consonants in writing. The problem of the correlation of the consonantism of the Tatar language and the graphemes of the Arabic alphabet was the object of close attention already in the first studies which covered the sound-letter composition of the Tatar language. This article attempts to review the main issues and trends concerning the grapho-phonetic structure of the Tatar language, reflected in self-study books, grammars, alphabets and dictionaries of the late 18th – early 19th centuries. For these purposes the authors consider the works of famous teachers, researchers, scientists of that period sucg as S. Khalfin, I. Khalfin, A. Kazembek, G. Vagapov, K. Nasyiri and others. The main problems, common and distinctive moments in the characteristics of the graphic phonetics of the Tatar language, the issues of the transmission of specific consonants reflected in the works of this time are presented. As a result of the study of this issue, it is concluded that the works of the study period are important for further research.
