This article is devoted to various phonetic phenomena used in lullabies of such peoples as the British, Russians and Tatars. The lullaby song is firmly established itself in the folklore of many nationalities and is of great interest to linguistic science due to the fact that its content reflects the peculiarities of the people’s life, their worldview, the values which their representatives based on while living. This study provides an opportunity to analyze the sound side of lullabies as the oldest genre of folklore and to witness the features characteristic of the nationalities of that era which makes this work relevant as well. In the course of the work, the purpose of which was to identify the main phonetic features of the lullabies of the three above-mentioned languages, two dozen lullabies of the English, Russians, and Tatars were analyzed serving as the material for the study. Applying different methods of linguistic research, it was revealed that among the main phonetic techniques used in lullabies in the English, Russian, and Tatar languages, one can note an abundance of sibilant sounds and sonants. In addition, reduplication can be reflected in all the three languages. Phonetic phenomena characteristic for each language include the use of interdental sounds, reduction of sounds, and the law of vowel harmony.
