Abstracts:

The article considers the problem of training of Physics teachers-to-be for the formation of natural science competence at schoolchildren; substantiates the relevance of the problem due to the increasing importance of natural science literacy of the individual as a factor of nature conservation and the need to improve the activities of Physics teachers in its formation among pupils.

The use of methods of theoretical analysis of pedagogical works devoted to the study of the phenomenon of natural science competence, the results of studies of this phenomenon  by G.S. Kovaleva and I.G. Krokhina, the own observation of the process of teaching Physics in secondary schools allowed the authors to identify the difficulties experienced by schoolchildren in studying physical phenomena associated with their abstract nature.

It is shown that an important means of improving the professional training of Physics teachers-to-be in the considered aspect can be an appeal to the experience of the past, to the pedagogical heritage of outstanding representatives of pedagogical science and practice.

The results of a survey conducted among the students of the training programme “Physics and Computer Science” of I. Yakovlev CHSPU studying demonstrate their lack of knowledge of the pedagogical heritage of the Chuvash ethnopedagogue G.N. Volkov. The article substantiates the potential of G.N. Volkov’s ethnopedagogical works and recommendations for Physics teachers-to-be training for the formation of natural science competence at pupils; provides some ethnopedagogical examples of explaining complex physical phenomena to children.
