Language picture of the world as one of the fundamental concepts of modern linguistics, reflecting ideas about the world, the way of perception and structure of the world in the linguistic consciousness, is created in different ways with the help of language means. Being the content of the fragments of the language picture of the world, native speakers’ stereotyped image of the personality traits can be reconstructed by synonymic rows. The present study deals with the adjectives of the synonymic rows with the general meaning “seeking new knowledge” in the language picture of the world, analyzes the similarities and differences in the semantics of the units, the features of their usage in different types of discourse, compatibility, typical situations of synonymy usage on the basis of dictionary and corpus material, using the methods of distributive and component analysis. The topicality of the study is conditioned by the frequency of usage of the analyzed synonymic adjectives in the Russian colloquial and artistic speech, the difficulty of perceiving differential semes of the synonyms by foreign students, the lack of unity in determination of the composition of this synonymic row and the limited material of lexicographic sources for determination of semantic and pragmatic properties of the analyzed synonyms. The results of the functional-semantic analysis allow us to single out the integrative and differential semes of the synonyms. The identified parameters of the characteristics of synonyms make it possible to model the stereotyped image of a personality trait nominated by the members of the analyzed row in the Russian language picture of the world.
