Based on the analysis and generalization of the author’s own long-term experience of scientific, pedagogical and sports activities, the article describes the low level of indicators of physical development and physical fitness of new students who entered the university, who have fairly rapid fatigue and inability to perform the same studied physical exercises for a long time with multiple repetitions necessary for mastering the technique of those exercises. The article also reveals the relevance of improving the methods of teaching volleyball to freshmen at elective courses in Physical Culture and Sports at the university. The peculiarity of the developed experimental methodology is the development of all the skills necessary in volleyball at the same time with frequent switching of students from one exercise to another, and the gradual improvement of the quality of the technique in game forms, which in interaction with each other provide a significant increase in the effectiveness of volleyball training. The results of the formative pedagogical experiment presented in the work indicate that the application of the author’s approach to teaching volleyball at elective courses in Physical Culture and Sports leads to an increase in the quality of classes, indicators of both physical and technical and tactical readiness of university students.
