Abstracts:
The article examines the motif of “The Cherry Orchard” in the novels “The Year of Deception” by A. Gelasimov, “The Life of Insects” by V. Pelevin, “Blue Fat” by V. Sorokin, and in the story “The Black Horse” by V. Ropshin. The comparative approach made it possible to reveal the semantic potential of “The Cherry Orchard” motif and emphasize the originality of its functioning in each of the works belonging to different aesthetic systems (realism – postmodernism). In M. Gelasimov’s novel “The Year of Deception”, the motif of “The Cherry Orchard” is implemented through the images of Charlotte and Epikhodov, who create a new version of the play about the feelings and experiences of the characters. In V. Pelevin’s novel “The Life of Insects”, Maxim plays Gaev, whose image is full of postmodern details: an aquarium, a bamboo sword, and boots. In the same perspective, in V. Sorokin’s novel “Blue Fat”, the cloned Chekhov creates the play “The Burial of Attis”, in which the apple orchard and the old footman Anton are important. However, the motif of “The Cherry Orchard” in V. Ropshin’s story “The Black Horse” reaches its full tragic meaning. The results obtained allow us to conclude that the motif of “The Cherry Orchard” is polysemantic and associated with the formation of a different reality, gravitating towards harmony and is important as a sign of illusory, dismay, when a person is plunged into an atmosphere of darkness and hopelessness.
