Abstracts:
The Tibetan folk heroic epic “Gesar”, the Kirgiz heroic epic “Manas”, the Mongolian heroic epic “Jangger” are collectively referred to as the three heroic epics of Chinese minorities. “Manas” is the heroic epic of the people of Kirgiz, and it ranks among the longest epics in the world because of its voluminous chapters. The epic mainly praises the heroic spirit of the warriors headed by the protagonist Manas who had been fighting for the freedom and dignity of the people. This article discusses and analyzes the characteristics of the times reflected in the proper names in the first songbook of Zhusup Mamai, a famous singer of “Manas” in China (about 52,000 lines of poems). The relevance of the work is due to the scientific interest in the study of the semantics of proper names functioning in the most ancient epics, as well as the comparison and opposition of their semantics. The novelty of the study is evidenced by the fact that within the framework of this work, for the first time there has been made the analysis of proper names functioning in the heroic epic “Manas” from the point of view of their historical conditionality. The texts of the storyteller Zhusup Mamai served as a source of material for the work. The study employed such research methods as analysis, synthesis, comparison. As a result of the study of the material, the origin of some proper names functioning in the legend was established: from the language of the Huns, Turkic, Chinese, Mongolian, Persian, Arabic and other languages of the Altaic, Sino-Tibetan and Indo-European language families. The analysis revealed that proper names reflect those historical events that are presented in the texts of the heroic epic “Manas” covering several historical eras.
