Abstracts:
The article presents the results of comparative analysis of the political discourses of the presidents of Russia and France based on their New Year speeches of 2019. The speeches of the heads of the states are the discourses basing on the principles of temporal and event-related localization, on the compilation of historical, cultural, political, ideological contexts, conformation of being a leader, aiming at the promotion of the idea of belonging to the nation.
The study involves not only a descriptive method but also a comparative one. The analysis of the language material results in the idea that the message of the speeches of both V. Putin and E. Macron emphases the achievements of the past year. The heads of state outlined the plans and goals for the state for the coming year. The authors define the main functions of such speeches as political discourse: appellative, communicative, representative, manipulative, regulative, and function of propaganda. They consider the extralinguistic (the means of persuasion, information, impact, communication in different public groups) and linguistic (the use of specific terminology, standard etiquette phrases, clichés, special lexical and grammatical units) features of the text.
