MATERNAL KINSHIP TERMS IN THE UDMURT LANGUAGE: THE SOURCE OF THE TYPOLOGICAL MODEL
The lexico-semantic group of words, which express the concepts related to kinship in the Udmurt language, have been studied quite well. However, certain aspects require further investigation. These unresolved issues include the cause of an unusual pattern of maternal kinship terms, which are formed by the word иuћ-, having the original meaning ‘mother’ brother’. Based onthe review of the terminology of the kinship of the languages of the Volga-Ural region, as well as some Asian languages, the author suggests that the Mongolian kinship system should be the source of the model.
