The article deals with the changes in the education system of the Russian Federation in recent decades: the introduction of Federal state educational standards of the new generation and professional standards of teachers, the development of the national system of teacher growth, the introduction of a new system of teaching positions. The article shows the urgency of the problem of providing the continuous development of professional skills and competencies of teachers for the implementation of state-defined priorities in the field of education (the entry of the state among the ten leading countries in the quality of education, the introduction of new methods of training, education and educational technologies, the creation of a modern and safe digital educational environment). The paper also analyses the definitions of the concept «career» in science; describes the types of career, including the types of career of teachers; considers the professional standard of the teacher is studied as a means of planning the individual professional trajectory and personal growth of the teacher, his readiness for professional and pedagogical activity, building his professional career; and provides the results of a survey of teachers aimed at studying the stages of career and features of their attitude to career growth.
