The article reveals that the driving forces of self-development of personality of a te-enager are internal contradictions. Education contributes to understanding these contradictions, overcoming them and organizing the activities on learning some positive social experience of resolving those contradictions. The latter leads to the development of personality traits which makes it possible to get prepared for self-education promoting the integrity and personal identity of a teenager. The vectors of development of driving forces for self-development are understanding and overcoming of internal contradi-ctions, the intention of resolving them and readiness for volitional regulation and adequate evaluation of the activity, individual character of the activity. The article stresses that the readiness of the teenager for self-education is conditioned by the level of consciousness development.
