The article substantiates the relevance of the research, Gives the definition for «professional competence»; reveals a set of pedagogical conditions that ensure the effectiveness of the organization of the process of formation of professional competences at the pupils of art school to preserve the traditions of decoration of the Chuvash women’s costumes; presents the model of the mentioned process; demonstrates the dynamics of the formation of the competences at students as a result of the implementation of the author’s program «Formation of professional competences at pupils of art schools to preserve the traditions of decoration of the Chuvash women’s costume».
