Abstracts:

The article deals with the frequency of size adjectives in the English and Tatar languages. The most frequent in the Tatar language is the adjective зур, in English it proved to be the adjective little. With regard to linguistic variation, one can observe the coincidence frequency at the adjectives thick/юан. The adjectives озын, киң, кечкенə are of the same frequency in the Tatar language. In English, the adjectives long – high – wide are distributed in descending order with a significant interval. In the analysis of quantitative data it is necessary: first, to take into account the compatibility potential; secondly, to consider interconvertible expressions. Linguists differ on the account of categorization of size adjectives, basing on and identifying specific features for a particular group. This article combines most specific characteristics for size adjectives and provides the author’s definition for them.
