Abstracts: | The Russian linguistics does not often analyze the lyrics of rock-poetry, the foreign one in particular. The article deals with the distinctive features of the lexical units of the German rock lyrics, the definition of concepts, and the quantitative analysis of the vocabulary, as well as reveals the linguocultural specifics and pragmatic potential. The basis of the scientific research is approximately 100 rock lyrics (published in German and English publications) − those of Die Apokalyptischen Reiter, Oomph, Rammstein, Tanzwut, Subway to Sally and others. The current article addresses the authors’ metaphors, used no more than once, yet remarkable for their poetic imagery. The study of metaphor has recently been relocated to the sphere of conceptual systems’ study and creation. While analyzing the German rock lyrics, the following concepts have been identified: «love», «hate», «life», «death», «friendship», «hostility», «joy», «sorrow», «war», «peace». The article provides the numerous examples of authors’ metaphors serving as examples of the authors’ subjective interpretation of some aspects of life. These metaphors can be characterized as conceptual due to the fact, that they are not a part of the codified language nor are they a cliché.
All the concepts stated in the article have a metaphorical nature. This identifies great literary value of the texts and also the great value of the rock lyrics concepts. Such interpretation of rock-lyrics as a target of linguistic analysis proves the necessity to examine these language units, to study them more thoroughly. Nowadays rock-poetry is not treated as a discrete concept, but rather as an integrated part of the language system, and that determines the motivation of the research.
