N. Ugarin, modern drama, Easter, spiritual value, hermeneutics, psychology, tradition, conflict. 

The authors make an attempt of systematic analysis of an acute work of the modern Chuvash playwright, N. Ugarin. The conflict in the drama involves a whole tangle of problems, acutely exposed in today’s society. The civil position of the author of the drama is clearly expressed in the philosophicalpsychological understanding of anti-humane nature of war and its consequences. The characters in the drama are generally young people, who inevitably come to a tragic outcome, but not particularly through their own fault. The people surrounding them, who are primarily their relatives, predetermine the tragic fate of young people [2]. Therefore, the play «Before Easter» reveals the whole essence of such relationship, in which due to the wickedness of some people, some other people have to responsible for this. And the sacrifice is bound to be, it is no accident that the playwright turns to the Biblical motif of purification.
