Abstracts:

The article considers charity as social phenomenon in the context of educational and pedagogical needs of modern society with an emphasis on the formation of the individual, its value orientations and based on the experience of the previous generation; stresses the tradition of charity which was formed at the beginning of the 18th century, and which developed in the period of the reforms of the last third of the 19th century in Kazan. The paper also provides the facts of mercy and charity aimed at the creation of charitable foundations and organizations, as well as at various segments of the population; analyzes the forms of philanthropic activities in Kazan (donations of fees from public lectures, establishment of rural libraries, dedicated work during epidemics), contributions to the starving. The article also focuses on the role of professors and students of the University and Veterinary Institute; states that the experience of charity is an approved mechanism of conscious actions of individuals aimed at the manifestation of the moral potential and the determination of value priorities of society experiencing a transitional stage of its development.
